The Frankfurt Senckenberg Museum celebrated its 200th birthday in 2021/22. At a time when natural research and research collections were becoming increasingly important, dedicated citizens created a home for them in Frankfurt in 1821. The Senckenberg company as a whole has grown steadily since then. In 2009, it also includes two other independent natural history museums in Görlitz and Dresden. On November 21, 1821, the “Museum Senckenbergianum” was opened in downtown Frankfurt. The collections of the members of the Senckenberg Society for Natural Research were shown for the first time. The following year the general public was able to visit the museum. At the beginning of the 20th century, the importance of natural sciences in society grew. Planning began in Frankfurt for a new building for the Senckenberg Museum, which opened in 1907. Since then we have been showing famous and often even unique natural objects at the location. They encourage a deeper understanding of nature, its history and cycles in the past, present and future.
