The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a multidisciplinary state corporation, entrusted with managing Kenya’s heritage on behalf of the citizens. Its main areas of focus are research, heritage conservation and management. The institution is over 100 years old dating back to 1910. The NMK manages a network of over 30 museums across the country and several sites and monuments. The headquarters of the NMK is in the capital city of Nairobi, where the Nairobi National Museum (NNM) is located. The NNM is the largest of the museums run by the NMK. The main pillars of the NNM are Culture, Nature, History and Contemporary Art. Another core function of the NMK is research which is done in the fields of Cultural Heritage, Botany, Zoology, Earth Sciences and Biodiversity.
