The Germanisches Nationalmuseum (GNM) is the largest museum dedicated to cultural history in Germany. Founded in 1852, its collection comprises of 1.4 million items ranging from pre-history to the present day. With around 250,000 visitors per year (pre-Covid-19), the GNM has around 20,000 sqm of permanent gallery space and three temporary exhibition halls for its lively, international and participatory exhibition programme. lts Conservation Department with 13 specialised studios leads museum practice and research in its area. The GNM is one of only eight Research Museums of the prestigious Leibniz Research Association, and the only of these with a focus on humanities, art and culture.
