The Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany is a publicly funded institution based in Berlin. It promotes critical engagement with the history of the communist dictatorship in East Germany and German division, as well as with transformation and German unity since 1990, and places these topics in international perspectives on memory culture and transitional justice. Since 2009, the foundation has developed more than twenty contemporary history exhibitions in a modular poster format, distributed across Germany in print runs of 500 to 4,000 copies and made available worldwide in numerous translations.
