TheMuseumsLab Alumni Network

With members spread across Europe and Africa, the Alumni Network aims to realise the creative potential of TheMuseumsLab as a laboratory for exchange on the future of museums by acting as a platform designed to further ideas formed during the programme, host new discussions, support networking, and share resources and opportunities.

TheMuseumsLab Alumni Network continues the journey begun in TheMuseumsLab Fellowship, connecting museum professionals, curators, and cultural leaders from Africa and Europe. It is a living community where alumni exchange knowledge, foster collaborations, and carry forward the Fellowship’s spirit of dialogue, joint learning and innovation to shape the museums of tomorrow.

During TheMuseumsLab 2022, the alumni-led network has been formed by Fellows of the programme. Since then, Alumni from all cohorts have been actively involved in supporting its further development. The network aims to maintain professional contacts, to share resources and opportunities, and to facilitate continued exchange.

Organised and driven by its members, the Alumni Network has become a very lively and strong platform for continued collaboration. While TheMuseumsLab continues to offer support, the network operates independently - driven by the initiative and engagement of the Alumni themselves. The network is coordinated by the Alumni Network Team that meets regularly, designs and circulates biannual newsletters and assumes responsibilities within TheMuseumsLab team.

Alumni have played an increasingly active role in shaping TheMuseumsLab over the years. Currently, representatives of the Alumni Network are involved through roles on the Steering Board and Curatorial Team, and by contributing to the programme as Speakers and Moderators.

As members of the Steering Board, Alumni are involved in strategic decision-making processes. Through the Curatorial Team, they play an active role in shaping the programme content—drawing from their own experience as former Fellows and offering valuable insight into the needs and expectations of participants.

At the end of each programme year, Alumni introduce the network to the current Fellows and invite them to join, supporting the network’s continued growth and long-term engagement.
